It seems we spend a lot of energy citing the negatives of Rome, and combatting Rome. But see very little of the Gospel, and bringing Jesus’ message to the world. What do confessing Anglicans confess? Copious amounts of writings against Rome, and the evangelization of the people with the Good News?

Charles, this quotation is not about Rome but about the movement to destroy confessional faith among Anglicans. This movement is still alive and well in today’s churches, and it is clearly opposed to the Protestant and Reformed confession of faith of the 39 Articles of Religion. Confessing Anglicans hold to the Articles as a summary of some important biblical doctrines. Justification by faith alone is one of these doctrines. This is an essential element of the gospel.

We’ll keep confessing the biblical faith.

Bp John Johns was indeed a remarkable man and a true evangelical. He did much to build up the Protestant Episcopal Church in Virginia. But he remained in the Episcopal and kept Virginia in it when the Reformed Episcopal Church was formed. Whether he intended to or not he handed Virginia over to the eventual Anglo-Catholics and Liberal church leaders. Virginia held out for a long time but it was a losing battle. It would have been better of John Johns had unlinked Virginia from the High Churchmen and the Anglo-Catholics.
