Church History, Part 5: 2nd Epistle of Clement

The Rev. Adam Young teaches through the history of the church in this video.

“2 Clement is the earliest record of a full Christian sermon. Recorded between roughly AD 95 – AD 140, likely in Rome or Corinth, we are given a glimpse of the style and priority of the earliest Christian preaching. Whilst raising its fair share of questions here and there most of the sermon is uncontroversial. It is an extended exhortation to purity, holiness, and ongoing faithfulness in light of the return of Jesus and the end of time. But it is exactly this heavy emphasis on personal holiness and its paramount importance which makes it jar so deeply with much of the preaching on the 21st century Western Church.”
