“Continuing to look at Ignatius, Bishop of Antioch, we consider two final important aspects of his letters. Firstly, we look at his obsession with his own death and insistence on being martyred. We ask if behind the florid and graphic language of his Asianism (his writing and rhetorical style) there are good reasons for him to desire death in Rome.
